WeCam Basics (5) – Output

Click [Output] on the left side of the main window to enter the output panel, where you can set how WeCam output video.

The output methods currently supported by WeCam include virtual camera, camera replacement, and live video push, and of course also include the most basic photo and video.

First of all, the video size and frame rate of all WeCam projects use the current default size and video frame rate of the virtual camera. No matter what was used before, it will adapt every time the project is opened. strong>The currently set size and frame rate.

Virtual camera

The virtual camera function can simulate a camera on the computer and use the video content of WeCam as its output video, which can be used in other programs.

The WeCam virtual camera adopts a system drive mode, which has strong compatibility and good stability. It can be used in all 32-bit and 64-bit programs, including web pages.

Default size and frame rate

You can select a preset size or use a custom size (length and width must be a multiple of 4) as the default output size of the virtual camera.

In addition to the default size, the virtual camera will also support a total of 3 common resolutions of 320×240 and 640×480 by default to maintain maximum compatibility. The “Only support this default size” option can force the camera to only use the set default size as the only output size, which can force other programs to use this resolution, but it may also prevent it from using WeCam. So please select the appropriate resolution when using it.

In addition to the default size, you can also set the default frame rate of the camera.

Portrait mode

Nowadays, mobile video is mainly in vertical screen, which causes most mobile apps to also use vertical screen video. In order to better support mobile applications, WeCam provides a “portrait mode” function. After selection, the current scene can be rotated 90° to play (but the actual output size has not been changed, and the default size is still set).

In order to achieve the ideal vertical screen effect, WeCam needs to set a proper resolution, Android emulator or third-party program support, and mobile APP support, these are indispensable.

There are two suggested solutions for vertical screen:

  • Set the vertical screen size directly, such as 720×1280 as the default size, and there is no need to select “Portrait Mode” at this time;
  • Set an appropriate resolution such as 1280×720 as the default size, and select “Portrait Mode” to see the effect of portrait playback.

Which one of these two effects is good, you need to try more in actual use to know, but one thing needs to be clear is that WeCam is only working as a camera in the middle, and it cannot control the behavior of other programs. If a third-party program simply Vertical screen video is not supported, so setting is futile anyway.

Output format

By default, the WeCam virtual camera supports two video formats, RGB24 and YUY2. You can also choose to support RGB24 or YUY2 separately to meet special needs. For example, when some software displays WeCam video, there will be a color cast that causes the color to be displayed incorrectly. At this time, you can try to see which video format can display normally.

Mirror, flip and zoom methods

The video output to the virtual camera can be mirrored and flipped. In addition, when other programs use the WeCam camera with a different resolution than the default resolution size, WeCam will zoom the video. Here you can select the zoom method.

Camera name

The default camera name of WeCam is “WeCam”, you can set any name you want as the camera name. What you see in other programs after the modification is the new camera name, and the device name displayed in the device manager of the system will also be the modified name.

Camera replacementBlack Technology sup>

Replace the output video of other cameras with WeCam video content, which can be used in special situations such as the virtual camera cannot be used.
